New Year’s Resolution

Long before most people announce their New Year’s resolution, Germanys iconic women’s magazine “Brigitte” has announced that as of 2010, they will ban all models from the editorial pages of the magazine. Because the modern woman is less in need of an ideal role model, but rather is looking for a source of inspiration in the unusual, all fashion (and other pieces) will be photographed with amateurs.

This much applauded move is also a renouncement of the zero size cult, which is probably the most terrorizing aspect of young women’s lives in most of the western world. What is ironic is how modern keyword search technology matches some pretty awkward advertising next to this announcement, as the following model search advertising shows:

But as hard as it is to criticize the publisher for this step, you have to wonder about the readiness of women to cut the habit of associating looking good with loosing weight. You couldn’t guess the big editorial piece in the much awaited January 2, issue: The Brigitte Diät 2010…
